Sitting Duck

Liam can sit up better each day. It's so awesome to watch him develop these new skills so quickly!

Liam and Grandpa.  Go Badgers!

He STILL has his cough, although he has been in a great mood.  We go back to the doctor (again) today just so they can listen to his lungs (again) and make sure it isn't turning into anything worse.  D and I are both still feeling under the weather, and we have been for the last month!  The sleep deprivation feels like it's at its worst now, which is frustastrating since he obviously isn't a newborn anymore!  Not sleeping through the night + Evil Germs in the house + me busy at work=   YUCK.  Throw in some cold weather and it getting dark at 4:45 now, and voila!  Party!    But!  He's being so darn cute and charming lately, it's all good.  I just need a nap. For like a week straight.  In my dreams!

And just to give you a glimpse into my tired scatter-brained life, yesterday I put nail polish remover ON MY FACE rather than the Clinique toner I thought was on the cotton ball.  It burned.   The end.

Messy Marvin

Here's messy Marvin testing out some peas for the first time.  Peas for the win!

Testing out his new hat!
And in BIG news, L sat up for the first time by himself this weekend!  Of course I can't seem to get that on camera, but he's doing it somewhat regularly now.

He still has the "rattlely" cough and sounds like a Pug when he breathes, but he's been in a decent mood this weekend.  Hopefully we can kick Evil Crud #2 to the curb soon.  At his last appt last week, he weighed 15.5.  Big boy!  I feel like we visit the doctor every couple of days.  Oh well, at least it's easy to get an appt when we need it.

'Roids

And by 'roids, I actually means steroids this time, rather than the dreaded hemorrhoids, although those are still hanging around too. (In case you were wondering).  I know you were.

So L is now getting Nebulizer treatments with Albu.terol for his cough.  It's more in his lungs this time, and less in his sinuses.  (Yay?) So we have to do that every 4 hours, which of course he hates.  But the nurse said it actually works better when they are screaming, because they then suck in more of the air/mist.  My doctor also gave me these AWESOME fun statistics:  babies in daycare will get approx 10 colds/viruses lasting approx 10 days each their first year.  So this is 100 days of sickness, or roughly 1/3 of the year.  All occurring mostly during the winter months. So she said it's really not abnormal that he has ANOTHER cold.  Seriously, he was happy for a week.  *SIGH*.   I guess we better get used to this, it's going to be a long WI winter......

So for everyone's sake, I hope this doesn't turn into a 3 week-long ordeal again, as that was rough!

In other news, L routinely will eat a bowl of cereal mixed with a veggie (sweet potatoes and carrots so far).  He is such a big boy sitting in his bumbo with the tray attached to it and food all over his face!  The first night we had the tray I sat cross-legged on the floor in front of him to feed him. I had no idea the dogs would be so intrigued with my bowl of orange goop. They were circling him like sharks!  When they realized I wasn't giving them any, Jack started EATING it off L's face!    Yes, gross.  Yes, also funny :-)  It certainly helped me get him clean!!

It's Back.

You guys.  The coughing.  It's back.   Just typing that makes me tense.  My mom mentioned he had been coughing again over the weekend, and obviously we heard it last night, but it was nothing compared to the hacking choke-coughing we had before with the Evil Crud virus from hell that has just finally gone away.  I received a call from his teacher today letting me know that his cough was progressing throughout the day, and he was refusing to eat again, and also having his "melt-downs".  So much for our happy baby.  I called to talk to the nurse, and we agreed to get him in tomorrow.

Tonight has been rather rough (again).   He did eat for us earlier though-cereal + sweet potatoes AND a bottle, but bedtime was rough.  I just don't feel up to tackling this whole thing again. I really hope they can figure out what is going on.  Evidently the other 2 boys in his room at daycare who were sick before, are sick again too.  *SIGH*.   Neither of them have a cough like that though.   I do want to believe that they are sanitizing and disinfecting things as much as possible. The one boy in his room is the Assistant Director's son.  She must have sensed my concern today without me saying anything, as they first thing she said to me was "I feel like all we do around here is clean, sanitize and disinfect everything!"  I really don't doubt that is the case, but man, this really blows.

Weekend to MN

We went to St. Paul this weekend to visit my new niece, Fiona. She is 3 weeks old now!  My sister is doing well.   It was nice to get a WHOLE night's sleep AND gain an hour at that. We only had to drive 4 hours to make that happen!  Heh.  Grandma stayed with Liam and the dogs.  Of COURSE he slept all night for her!! Of course.

Fiona seems like such a peanut, but she is almost 9 lbs now.  She is wearing Liam's old ducky onesie!  They are only 4.5 months apart, but they will be in different grades in school.  Still, very cool to be so close in age.  Hope they are friends some day!

Nothing too exciting to report on Liam lately, which is definitely a good thing.  He's been pretty happy and playful (finally!)  He now will take his own pacifier and puts it in his mouth, which is very cute.  We have been working a bit on sitting up, but he's not there yet.

Happy Halloween!

Happy belated Halloween, everyone.  It seems the Evil Crud (official medical term) has finally left Mr. Liam, so we had a pretty decent weekend!  He did not enjoy his monkey costume though.  Oh well, maybe next year :)

Treading Water

So, the ultrasounds came back normal, as we all suspected they would.  *Whew*.  But that obviously didn't help us figure anything out.

So, let's see.  Liam started Amoxicillin last Monday since he was hanging on to his cough and stuffed up nose.  After a few days, he seemed to be doing better, less coughing, happier in general.  Then Thursday night he started refusing bottles.  He has never done that before.  He just screamed and screamed.  He ate one in the middle of the night, but refused 2 at daycare on Friday.  Friday night he stayed with Grandmpa and Grandpa, as I also now have a sinus infection and needed some sleep!  He did well with them until Saturday at 3:00PM, when he refused another bottle.  I tried to feed him at 5, and he refused that too. He was also burning up and screaming.  We gave him baby Motrin since the Wal-Mart by them was all out of Tylenol products.   He slept all the way home.  We got him to eat a little before bed ,but he awoke at 12:30 and threw up all over the kitchen.   He did eat a little in the middle of the night.  We made him an appt to be seen on Sunday morning, and he thew up again right before we left.    This time they did a chest x-ray, which came back clear. They also thought his ears looked still clear.  So they switched us to another antibiotic, and said we could give him Pedialyte. They also said he's too young for Motrin, which I didn't realize.  That could be why he threw up, as it was on a very empty stomach :(.

He did well yesterday afternoon when my mom was visiting, but last night the demons were back.  :(.   He did eat a little before bed, and a full bottle at 3:30 AM.  He didn't have a fever this AM, so we sent him to daycare.  They just called to say he hasn't been eating there all day.  The director's son is actually in Liam's room, and she said he has the same thing, and she really thinks it's a sore throat causing discomfort.  She said to bring Tylenol, and that might help the throat.

So this is week 3 of this crud, and I just want our poor little man to feel better.  Babies shouldn't have to deal with this crap!  He will be 5 months tomorrow, and I feel like we have a newborn with the little sleep everyone is getting. Ugh.
